The Meridian PowerWeb Client does have such a server option.
The ItemsPerCall registry setting on the server controls the count at which this message is displayed. The default value of 20, can be changed anywhere from 1 to 100k.
This is described in the Server Registry Keys section of the Administrator’s Guide:

A message appears when a user opens a folder with more than 250 objects (documents and/or folders). This is intended to verify that the use wants to fetch this long list of items from the server, which may take some time depending on how many items Meridian needs to fetch.
