Be able to restore a SQL vault without mirroring (EDM and SQL in different machines)

Imagine if you have Meridian server and SQL server on different machines, then you need "mirroring" the "Backup" folder.

On both machines, I.e.
EDM-server: <SomePath>\Backup
SQL-server: <SomePath\Backup>

To be more specific, currently the .BAK file needs to be presented on the SQL server host related path. This for specific clients and for their reasons, can not be done.

    Hi Coen,

This Idea is about Meridian Vaults with SQL backend databases. Some customers have corporate standards whereby they are obliged to use either SQL or Oracle (not Hypertrieve). They would like to backup the vault databases safely using the corporate SQL database backup solution.

Meridian Explorer Repositories can be backed-up by the SQL Server. Meridian Vaults should use Hypertrieve and backed-up by Meridian.

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for looking at this.

Currently we have several large customers who use SQL Clusters or DAGs (Database Availability Groups) and as such they wish to use their Corporate Backup solutions. This is not possible with Meridian SQL vaults, which still need to be backed up by Meridian, which is very restrictive, since it can’t run anything other than a full-backup every time and can’t be scheduled as part of a corporate disaster recovery plan. This is also true for Restoring Databases, we are supposed to use the database restore functions, but if the paths are not the same on the database cluster (which they are not) then it is not possible to use the Meridian tools.

Which ultimately leaves the large customers wondering if Meridian really is an enterprise solution as opposed to a departmental single server solution.

Our customers cannot be the only ones having this issue.

    Regards

    Brendan

    Thanks again for your suggestion.

Can you help clarify the direction in which this should be approached?

For example, would adding general support for corporate backup tools be sufficient?
This would potentially support TransactSQL which would allow the Meridian administrator to take the vault(s) offline to allow the performance of maintenance tasks, such as move files, rename files, etc., after which the vault(s) would be returned to their online state.
