Currently users can subscribe to documents. They can select which events will trigger a notification. There is no event available which would trigger a notification when a new revision of the document is introduced through import.

Notification events are all tied to workflow. With import, it is possible to create a new revision of the document without ever entering workflow. An new released revision can be imported on top of the previous released revision. Users are very keen to be notified about this kind of change too.
