Read all attributes from AutoCAD

We have prospects with a huge legacy of documents scattered in folders, looking for a solution not only for stop the mess, but also toallow then to organic import the legacy documents and organize it as good as possible.

Most of those documents are DWG files, and usually with attributes, but not in a way we can predict the attributes names as many of the documents was created by multiple random contractor using different templates.

Idea here is to have a way for user doing the organization of the legacy have easy access to the all attributes list of the selected document, and to be able to copy the value of the attribute to a custom Meridian property.

It maybe could be done together with "Set Poperty Value" function, so additionally from current options (fixed value, value of property, expression) we would have another option "Value of dwg attribute" and a list of attributes of current selected drawing.

It would be even better if we had 2 new vbscript functions: One to extract a list of existent attributes and another one to get the value of a given attribute name, this would allow even more possibilities.

This could also be used for DGN files.

Rudi Pieters Oct 31, 2018 This type of capability is planned for next year. We have developed a pilot component that extracts data (layers, line types, blocks&attributes, etc.) from a DWG into an XML file. This XML can be used to check a DWG against CAD standard rules or harvest data from it.
